Mangalore, Dec 20,2012:“Suryacha Kirnnani” an appraisal of the literary contributions of Late Wilfy Rebimbus, the renowned singer popularly known as Konkan Kogul, will be released by well-known poet and Kendra Sahitya Academy Award winner Melwyn Rodrigues, at a function to be held at St Joseph’s Monastery, Carmel Hill, Bikarnakatta on December 21 at 5 pm.
The function will be presided over by Rev. Fr. Archiebald Gonsalves OCD, Provincial Superior of the Carmelites. Two scholarly papers namely ‘Human Values in Wilfy’s Literature’ by Jocy Siddakatte, Konkani writer and poet and ‘Centenary of Konkani Journalism - An Evaluation’ by Prof. Stephen Quadros, Permude, Konkani writer and grammarian will be presented on the occasion.
The book edited by Fr Stephen Pereira OCD, unearths the rich treasure that lies deep within the songs and writings of the great Konkan Kogul who was also honoured with the Pro Ecclesia EtPintifice, the highest Papal Award given to a layperson for contributing to the Church through his songs. For the first time several famous writers of Konkani have come together to contribute to this work with their scholarly articles on a single person. Apart from a detailed biography of Wilfy Rebimbus, this books addresses various aspects of Wilfy’s literature: his literary style; his portrayal of the Christian community, of religion, of women, of motherhood; his views on politics, human values, comedy, health, social revolution, philosophy, love, relevant and striking events, his mother-tongue Konkani, and many more.
