Need to sensitize farmers on benefits of bio-fuel stressed

Mangalore, Dec 30,2012: YB Ramakrishna, Managing Director of the State Bio-Fuel Development Board has said that there was ample scope for  production of bio-fuel in the district. He has also called for the formulation of an action plan in this direction  through a core committee comprising officials of the Departments of Forest, Social Forestry , Agriculture and Horticulture.


He  was addressing a progress review meeting  of Bio-fuel development programme held at the ZP Mini Hall in Mangalore on December 29, Saturday. Ramakrishna further urged the need to create awareness among farmers on the importance of bio-fuel in the farming sector.


He also stated that bio-fuel development would be a mandatory programme in the action plans of ZPs from next year onwards.


Dr KN Vijayaprakash, ZP Chief Executive officer, gave details on development registered in the sector.


AK Monnappa, also an official of the Board said there is the possibility of extracting oil even from rubber seeds and cashew  fruit and added there is an increasing demand from farmers for plants  which will facilitate bio-fuel.


Attihalli Devaraj, Member of the Board, Seetamma, project director and others were present on the occasion.
