Kundapur, feb 23, 2013 : Kundapur police have apprehended notorious fraudster Baby Shedti who had cheated several poor women of lakhs of rupees after collecting cash through pigmy from them. It is learnt, the woman had created a benami co-operative named Nandikeshwara Self-Help Group and had even created fake pass books of a prestigious bank.
The Police have seized a cash of Rs 94,000, 32 fake pass books, 20 ID cards, 3 long books, stamp pads and 2 seals from the accused.
She was produced before the court on February 22, Friday and remanded to judicial custody upto Mach 6.
The accused, wife of Sudhaker Shetty of Nandikeshwara Nilaya of Korgi Dodderi, though had studied just upto sixth standard had a criminal mind. She first starts the SHG named Nandikeshwara and then convenes meetings of several poor women from nearby villages after inducting them as members.
In a next move, she creates fake pass books and secures Rs 5,185 as initial deposit and then collects Rs 100 as pigmy amount every month with a promise to return Rs 32,000 after five years.
Her fraudulent practices were exposed when one of her SHG member arrived at the SCDCC Bank at Tekkatte on December last and enquired about the amount she paid. Baby Shedti who went missing since then, has finally been trapped.
Her son who is in seventh standard and daughter a PUC student are shocked to know about their mother’s bungling. She is also learnt to have revealed during interrogations that she had lent Rs 73,000 to one Rajkashekhar Shetty and a few others.
