Udupi, April 21, 2013: A person hailing from New Delhi has been convicted in the case of the murder of a retired army man from Bommarabettu. A fast track court in Udupi has on April 20, Saturday, sentenced Dharmendra Sharma alias Om Prakash (39) to life imprisonment for killing Taniyappa (56).
The murder was committed on September 16, 2010 when Dharmendra stayed in Taniyappa’s house. He, it is learnt, was a relative of Taniyappa’s wife Sumana. The murder took place after Taniyappa asked Dharmendra to leave his house, reportedly angered over his close proximity with his wife.
Dharmendra who entered the house of Taniyappa at around 10.30 pm that day, had murdered the latter with a sickle.
The court has also imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 on the convict. The then Brahmavar Circle inspector G Krishnamurthy had filed the charge sheet.
