Belthangady: Human trafficking racket busted ; several women, children rescued

Mangalore, April 26, 2013 : Over 60 persons including ten men and the rest women and children, suspected to be Tamil refugees who were found in a lodge under suspicious circumstances were rescued by the police on April 25, Thursday morning. It is suspected that this was a case of human trafficking. However, police have declined to provide details.
According to sources, the men were on way to Mangalore from Chennai via Bangalore, and that they were lodged in a lodge in Belthangady where the bus developed a technical snag. It is said they were in the lodge since two days. Another suspicion is that they were supposed to taken to Australia after taking them to a boat in old port in Mangalore.
In an earlier case, as many as 84 persons who were supposed to be taken to Australia in a boat were rescued. The kingpin of this racket had even purchased the boat from its owner at Chitrapur.
