Mangalore, May 20, 2013 : Newly elected MLA from Mangalore South JR Lobo met Union Petroleum Minister M Veerappa Moily at the Guest House at Kadri Hills and held discussions on some pressing problems confronting the district.
Referring to the water problem which Puttur has been facing, he said the opposition by the Kumaradhara Jana Jagrithi Samithi in construction of a dam across Kumaradhana has proved a stumbling block. He also stressed the need for the completion of the construction of the dam at the earliest in order to avoid water crisis.
Stating that the erstwhile MLA of Mangalore South Yogish Bhat though was keen on development, he failed in effectively implementing them. Lobo also stressed the need to complete all pending projects.
Later, Moily referring to the Perne gas tanker tragedy, said the HPCL has chalked out a Rs 48 lakh project aimed at rehabilitating the affected families. Children who have lost their parents in the tragedy will be offered free education and training in skill development, he said.
The Union Minister also said discussions have been held with the Deputy Commissioner to ensure steps to see that the gas tankers adhered to all rules. An emergency aid system would also be launched in Gundya, he added.
