Former athlete champion Anand Shetty dies in a road accident

Mangalore, May 21, 2013: International athlete Anand Shetty (49) hailed from Mangalore suffered severe injuries in a road accident and died in a private hospital on Tuesday May 21.

The heinous incident occurred on Saturday May 18 after the car in which he was travelling was collided by a bus near Kotekar. His wife and daughter also suffered injuries and were admitted to hospital.

Anand Shetty, who begins his career as a talented Kabaddi player, had represented the nation both in junior and senior levels at national and international events. A former national athlete champion. He had specialized in short distance races like 100 and 200 metres and had also represented India at the Asian Games in 1982 at New Delhi.
