Kasargod : Lathi charge during SFI protest against admission norms; several hurt

Kasargod, July 3, 2013 :  Several Students Federation of India activists sustained injuries when police resorted to a lathi charge  after a protest march by the SFI to the Revenue Divisional Office in Kanhangad turned violent on July 2, Tuesday.


The protest was organised to oppose the state government circular allowing self financing engineering colleges to make 65 per cent admission under the management quota, thereby upsetting the 50 per cent admission for meritorious students.

Police prevented the SFI activists from barging into the office, when in the melee two police personnel were injured due to stone pelting. Finally, police resorted to a lathi charge to quell the mob.


SFI activists  namely K. Vineesh, K.M. Gireesh Balan and A.V. Shiva Prasad were also arrested in connection with the clash.
