83 yr old woman accuses granddaughter of assaulting her over property dispute

Mangalore, Nov 7, 2013: An 83  year old woman who is a resident of Perar in Mooduperar village has lodged a complaint with the Bajpe police alleging that her granddaughter has assaulted her over a property dispute. The woman is presently undergoing treatment Wenlock Hospital.

It is said Ephezin Pereira was assaulted by her granddaughter Janet Mary D’Souza when  the former refused to heed to the latter’s demand for more share in the property. Janet is the daughter of Irene D’Souza who stays with her mother Ephezin, while  Ephezin’s  son Pius Hilary Pereira stays close by. Ephezin has a total of five children including three boys.

It is learnt, Janet first assaulted the old woman on  November 2, Saturday. When a complaint was lodged, she was infuriated and again reportedly assaulted the woman following which she was hospitalized.

Ephezin who has sustained injuries on her head and feet now needs a surgery of her hand. Irene and Pius allege that it was Janet who assaulted the old woman.

However, Janet has refuted the charges and says  Ephezin had hurt herself after having a fall in the house. She also alleged that Pius’s wife Theresa had lodged a false complaint with the police that she (Janet) had assaulted Ephezin.
