Mysore, Nov 7, 2013: State Minister for Highways and Surface Transport Oscar Fernandes has said that the construction of tunnel ways on the Shiradi Ghat stretch of National Highway linking the port city of Mangalore to the state capital Bangalore, will soon be taken up with Japanese aided technology. The tunnel is expected to reduce the distance between Sakleshpur and Gundia from the present 26 km to 18 km and provide a straight road in place of the road with multiple hairpin bends, thereby saving travel time for vehicle users.
Speaking at T.Narasipura in Mysore after inaugurating the new bridge across Kapila river and laying the foundation for another new bridge across Cauvery river, the Union Minister said the works would be taken up at the earliest as per the recommendation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and PWD minister.
