Mangalore, Dec 11, 2013: People’s Union for Civil Liberties, Dakshina Kannada, alleged that the Popular Front of India (PFI) was behind the attack on journalist V.T. Prasad in Vittla recently.

The fact-finding committee of the PUCL, consisting of its president P.B. D’sa, vice-presidents Suresh Bhat Bhakrabail and Kabir Ullal, said here on Tuesday the PUCL was in possession of an audio recording in which an attacker claims to be a member of the PFI.

Besides, the version of events narrated by Mr. Prasad had also indicated the involvement of the group in the attack.

Their five-page report said Mr. Prasad had managed to get nearly Rs. 1 lakh worth of wood from a Muslim donor for the benefit of a Muslim family and this could have embarrassed the group, which allegedly attacked the journalist.

Mr. D’Sa said the women, who got admitted to a hospital after Mr. Prasad allegedly molested them, told the committed that they were instructed by the “PFI boys” to do so. He said the PUCL report found that the molestation charge against Mr. Prasad was not convincing. He said some persons associated with “sand and timber mafia” were part of the group that had attacked Mr. Prasad and demanded a probe.
