Mangalore, December 24, 2013:
A 6-foot python was rescued at a commercial complex near Karangalpady in the city on Monday evening at about 08:15 p.m. Passersby first noticed the reptile hiding under a car in front of Mahendra Arcade. When people gathered around the spot, the snake was not amused and moved into the basement area of the building, where it hid under a pile of cardboard cartons and other packing materials belonging to Symphony, a musical instruments shop.

Subsequently it was rescued by Charles Paul, honorary secretary of Animal Care Trust who promptly arrived on the spot and caught the heavy constrictor with the help of Swadique Mansoor, a student of St. Aloysius College. It will be handed over to Pilikula Nisarga Dhama, he said.

The python might have strayed from the dense vegetation behind Mahendra Arcade or from the thickly wooded region on Court Hill, which lies across the road.
