Smoking in public could put you in trouble

Mangalore, May 21, 2014:  DK DC   AB Ibrahim, said  that individuals must become aware that smoking in public place is an offence and the authorities concerned can impose fine of Rs 200 or more on a person who is found smoking in public places. 

Speaking at a meeting on the implementation of Cigarette and Other Tobacco Product Act (COTPA), the DC said that smoking in public places is an offence under Section 4 of COTPA. A fine of Rs 21,000 has been collected in 191 cases booked under the act in the MCC limits last year.


Similarly, 308 cases were booked in the district and a sum of Rs 57,000 has been collected. Many officials and public were present. Please do refrain from smoking in public places hence forth.
