A year after a gory mishap, court directs KSRTC to pay compensation

Puttur, June 29, 2014:  In a significant  judgement, the District Fifth Additional Court has passed a judgement  ordering the KSRTC to pay a compensation of Rs 18.7 lakh to the kin of the four members of a family who were killed in a macabre road accident involving a KSRTC bus and a  jeep.

The  accident had occurred on June 2, 2013 at Santyar near Puttur  which claimed the life of Peter Mascarenhas, his wife Leena Mascarenhas, a Congress member of Puttur TMC, their son Prithesh (13) and  Peter’s brother Antony. The family was on way to Puttur from Sullia after attending a wedding when the mishap took place. The accident had also left two others critically injured.

A petition was thereafter filed before the court seeking compensation.
