Wenlock hospital to get an ’Ayush unit’

Mangalore, July 08, 2014:  Speaking after inaugurating an awareness drive on Ayush and a free treatment camp organised by Suvarna Education Charitable Trust and Father Muller’s Homeopathy College, Karnataka Ayurveda Medical College and Karnataka State Government Ayush Medical Officers Association at Lower Primary School at Narla in Talapady, on July 6.

Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader has said that a 50-bedded Ayush unit will be opened at Wenlock Hospital in Mangalore.

The minister said that Ayush treatment is complimentary to a healthy life. “By growing useful herbs in the backyard of the house, we can cure many common ailments. Elders and particularly mothers should create awareness about home medicines among children,” he said.

The Minister said the salary of doctors serving on contract basis under NRHM, will be hiked to Rs 30,000 soom. Measures will also be taken to regularise their services. If tribals are willing to use their knowledge on herbs and natural produce for the welfare of society, necessary measures could be started to provide facilities for the tribals by the government, he added. Ayush Medical officers Dr Devdas, Talapady GP President Usha were present.

Free blood test, ECG and other tests were conducted. Around 150 people from the nearby villages took part in the camp.
