Crop insurance claims submission extended to July end

Mangalore, June 08, 2014:  Paddy growers in Dakshina Kannada can enroll to claim crop insurance for kharif season under the Rashtriya Krishi Vima Yojana till the end of July. The government had fixed June end as the limit for enrollment under the insurance scheme earlier but this stands extended now..

A press release from agriculture department said that the insurance is mandatory to those who have availed crop loan. Farmers without loan could also avail insurance claim. Farmers under 172 gram panchayats except under Mangalore A. hobli are eligible for enrollment. Agriculture Insurance Company of India implemented the scheme in Dakshina Kannada with an insurance amount of Rs 30,909 per hectare. The premium amount is Rs 618.18 (two per cent) per hectare during registration.

The applications must be accompanied by, copy of pahani/khata/passbook/revenue reciept should be attached. Farmers will have to inform the insurance firm within 48 hours of crop damage to claim the insurance.
