Udupi, Aug 4, 2014 : Discussing matters in an address at the valedictory of the two-day seminar cum workshop on ‘Modern Media: Introspection and Challenges’ organised by Karnataka Madhyama Academy in association with Udupi District Information Department and Udupi District Working Journalists Association,  Veteran Journalist M V Kamath noted that currently media is under attack for its oblique  behaviour and practice. The senior journalist said honesty/truth and devotion are the vital criteria as per the established journalistic practices and norms. The scribe should be the servile observer for the public and people. He should always remember that information is not knowledge and knowledge is not wisdom. The private problems of the media and scribes should not influence, interfere or intervene in their profession and actions.


The conscience should be in the self  introspecting mode. The responsibility of the journalist is to cover the happening or incident irrespective of what the stature of the matter is, he exhorted.

Deputy Commissioner Muddu Mohan said journalists should not use information as weapons. It is not social service. The information should be processed and later delivered to the readers in truth. He stressed the need for introspection. Each journalist should consider public interest rather than individual interest. There is a need for farsightedness, besides the reporter should write articles factually and not depend on external forces. The DC added that the 24x7 working concept in media as quite challenging and should be appreciated and valued by all people.
