Demand for ’Budget Airlines’ from and to M’lore’s MIA

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Aug 06, 2014: The Mangalore International Airport Users Forum has urged the government to introduce budget airlines to Mangalore from GCC countries.

The office-bearers of the forum said low-cost airlines that fly out of Kochi, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram to the gulf countries charged one-third the rates that were being charged by full-fledged airlines from Mangalore Airport. “After several years of struggle, Air India Express started a flight from Mangalore to UAE eight years ago.

However, the service of these flights – whether handling of baggage and inconvenient flight timings – have given us reasons to be disappointed,” said the forum. Similarly, the forum demanded the cancellation of the user fee at the Mangalore airport.  Among the other demands was to ensure distribution of compensation to the kin of people who died in the Air India Express crash at the airport in 2010.

A memorial should be built in their memory at the crash site, and increase in luggage limit and proper handling of luggages.  Mangalore passengers are a troubled lot it seems.
