Mangalore, Aug 6, 2014: Addressing a press conference here on Aug 4, Kisan Kheth Majdur Congress State Vice President Sachin Meega said the Supreme Court Judgement on Dr Gorak Singh report implementation is expected in the last week of August. It is a great task for the growers to repay their loans as they lost 60 per cent of crop due to fruit rot disease last year. This year again they are in trouble because of incessant rain from last two weeks, he said.
KRRS - Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene have welcomed State-level Bankers’ Committee decision which has directed the nationalised banks not to go for harsh recovery measures as the areca growers are affected by fruit rot disease (Kole roga). Meanwhile, it warned severe protest against the banks if they go against the direction.
Meanwhile, Sachin Meega came down heavily against Samaja Parivarthana Samudaya Founder S R Hiremath. According to his petition, the State High Court has ordered to clear 11 lakh acres of ‘encroached land’ in the State, as per the V Balasubramanian report.
“The State government itself has not approved the report, but Hiremath filed the petition in hurry, as it is a land mafia worth Rs 15-16 lakh crore rupees. The Judge has taken it seriously and Judgement has been given to clear the land gradually. Around 2,836 acres of land has been cleared already,” he said. Hiremath may not be aware of the ground realities. Here, most of the land holders are small farmers who have 2 to 5 acres of land. Among them those who have submitted application in Forms 50 and 53, may get revenue land upto 4.33 acre. Many families who are residing in forests for decades may get land around 10 acres.
“We have filed a petition questioning the decision. The Court would consider these points in the Judgement,” he hoped. Meanwhile, he alleged that the forest department has violated the Forest Conservation Act by cutting the plants while vacating land. If harassment of farmers continues, farmers will start a campaign against Hiremath across the state, he added.
