2009 drug trafficking case ends in conviction of both accused

Mangalore, Sep 11, 2014: G D Asif (37) from Kasba Bengre and Abdul Samad (35), a resident of Sabarabail in Sonandoor village in Beltangady taluk, were pronounced guilty by the District court of appeals. They were accused of ganja trafficking and fined Rs 10,000 each and handed a sentence of 2 years RI on September 10.

The said court on September 8 had stated that the charges against the accused were proved substantially. The quantum of sentence was announced by chief district and sessions judge, Uma M G, Public prosecutor, Pushparaj Adyantaya, argued in the case.

Inspector of Coastal Security Police, Mukund Nayak, who was on June 15, 2009, responsible, found 1.175 kg of ganja in the possession of Asif, and 53 ganja sachets with Abdul Samad. Investigation and evidence was presented  by  Nayak who filed the charge sheet during his tenure..
