Mangalore, Sep 26, 2014: The region received heavy rainfall on Sept 25. After a lull, moderate to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning lashed several parts of the state.
Parts of Dakshina Kannada district received heavy rain coupled with lightning and thunder. Owing to heavy rain, power supply was disrupted in Ujire, Dharmasthala, Subramanya for several hours. Trees fell on the road at Kaikamba, Gopali, Kidu and Venkatapura and three electric poles were also damaged in the region. A bus stand at Gundya was damaged when a tree fell on it. The movement of vehicles on Kadaba Road was disrupted following uprooting of trees.
Shimoga, Sagar, Hosanagar, Shikaripur, Sorab, Bhadravathi and some parts of Thirthahalli received moderate to heavy rainfall for about 20 minutes in the evening. It gave a much needed respite for the people from heat wave. Power supply was disrupted in some parts of Shimoga city as branches of trees fell on electric poles. Malnad region received downpour for several hours on Wednesday night. The water level in Linganamakki dam stood at 1,818 feet against the maximum level of 1,819 feet. The inflow of water into the dam recorded 6,692 cusecs and the outflow stood at 9,677 cusecs.
