Railway authorities start cleanliness drive

Mangalore, Oct 5 , 2014: The countrywide programme, in response to the Prime Minister’s ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ call, the Palakkad division of Southern Railways conducted a cleanliness drive at Mangalore Central stations premises and railway colony. Around 1,000 people, including NSS, Red Cross volunteers from nearby schools, students of Amrita Vidyalaya Mangalore, members of Mangalore Rotary Club and railway staff sweat it out from morning 9.30 to 5 pm to clean the surroundings.

Mangalore Central Station Manager P K Shivadasan told that area in front of the entrance, Platforms 1, 2, 3, Railway employees colony, and stretch near Railway Muthappan temple were cleaned besides the railway tracks.  MP Nalin Kumar Kateel inaugurated the programme at the station premises.


He called upon the officials to ensure that the entire railway premises wears a look of cleanliness and hygienic always and not end the task on a day.  Railway commuters cooperation is vital in keeping the whole area neat and tidy. Littering, spitting etc should be done away with stringent measures as well as awareness drive, the MP told.  Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM) Mohan A Menon, Mangalore Assistant Divisional Engineer Ezhilan, Area Officer P K Dasan, Station Manager P K Shivadasan among others participated.
