‘Navachandi Yaga’ in Belthangady

Belthangady, Oct 11, 2014:  Praja Prabhutva Vedike and Hindu Jagarana Vedike organised ‘Navachandi yaga,’ to pray for the welfare of society and women folk, on the occasion of second death anniversary of Sowjanya. Sowjanya, a second PU student was raped and murdered two years ago.  The yaga was held in 11 kundas. It was organised to give ‘sanity’ to those who perpetrated the crime.   Sadhvi Mathanandamayi said that there is a need to eradicate darkness from society. “With the divine intervention, one will get good thoughts in life. Women should face problems with courage,” she said.

Balekudru Narasimhashrama Swamiji, Kemaru Eesha Vittala Dasa Swamiji, Kollur Maitri Swamiji among others explained the power of the yaga and urged justice for Sowjanya. Eleven women priests performed the duties of head priests for each of the 11 ‘yaga kunda.’ The event witnessed participation 1,008 married women.
