Unaided schools’ heads to meet on Oct 19

Mangalore, Oct 12, 2014: On behalf of the private unaided schools of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, Uppinangady based Indraprastha Vidyalaya will organise a conference of unaided schools’ heads of two districts, at Shri Sudheendra Auditorium, Canara Girls High School Compound, Kodialbail in Mangalore, on October 19, at 10 am.

Addressing a press conference,   Indraprastha Vidyalaya Chairman U S A Nayak said that Supreme Court Advocate and counsel of Karnataka Unaided Schools Managements’ Association (KUSMA) K V Dhananjay will address the gathering. KUSMA President V R N Reddy, Vice President S Sathyamurthy, Secretary A Mariyappa and others will participate in the programme. The key points that will be discussed in the conference are problems being faced by the private unaided schools relating to Right to Education Act, language policy fallout, child safety, reasonable fees, parent management, minority status, confusion over linguistic and religious minorities, reservation of seats for various castes in schools etc, he said.

RTE guidelines: U S A Nayak said that the government has said that private schools should take only Rs 3,000 from 25 per cent students, who were admitted under RTE Act. It is hardly possible to provide education to a student with Rs 3,000 per annum.

The government should let the institutions to collect need based fees. Misuse of income certificate should be checked, he said.  “We have approached the Supreme Court to consider ’neighbourhood’ schools and government schools should be considered first while admitting children under RTE,” he added.

“We have written a letter to the State government on June 30 to consider Indraprastha Vidyalaya as a minority institution as ours’ is a Konkani management. If the government won’t respond to the letter, we will file a petition in the High Court,” he said. Trustee Dr Krishna Naik was also present.
