5-day Thrombosis screening camp inaugurated

Manipal, Oct 14, 2014:  A five-day free Thrombosis screening and awareness camp was inaugurated at KMC- Kasturba Hospital Ocotober 13.    Announcing the event, Manipal University Pro Chancellor Dr H S Ballal said that the third among the worlds top cardiovascular killers, venous thromboembolism (VTE) or blood clots in the leg and lungs, has remained largely underrecognized by the public.

The observation of the World Thrombosis Day 2014, focus on the increasing public and health professionals awareness of potentially deadly blood clots in the leg and lungs, the risk factors, symptoms and the importance of prevention.   Dr Ballal also gave away the scholarships to students with bleeding disorder under the ‘IDEEA’ project of Manipal Haemophilia Society and Kasturba Hospital and Manipal University on the occasion.

About 15 students were awarded scholarships for higher education.  Medical Superintendent Dr (Col) M Dayananda also spoke on the occasion.
