Shriram Foundation launches unique scholarships

Mangalore, Oct 16, 2014: Shriram Foundation has launched a nation-wide education scholarship programme to provide financial assistance to the needy children of truck drivers and transporters it is reported. The foundation has offered financial assistance and scholarships to 442 eligible children studying in class eight to class 12 in Mangalore, in the first phase for the year 2014-15.

Speaking to media here,   Praveen Panthambekar of Shriram Foundation said that under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities the Foundation is focusing on health care, education and women empowerment. Under this scheme, students of class eight to 10 will get the financial assistance of Rs 3,000. For class 11 and 12 students, the amount will be increased to Rs 3,500. This scheme is focused on small transporters, who may not be Shriram employees. The monthly income of the drivers should not be more than Rs 25,000 and students should score above 60 pc for scholarship
