Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Nov 06, 2014:  Reliable sources state,  ’Hijab’. the islamic head gear for women, seems to be showing signs of  revival once again. An educational institution in D K district,  college managements out side the city told the girls not to attend the classes wearing hijab starting Nov 5, Wednesday.

Sources said a pharmacy college principal called the girls and told them veils over the head infringe the uniform code of the college, the girls called their parents. After some arguments, parents said this was not clearly stated in the prospectus and they could not impose uniform code mid year.

College management then gave in to the point and went on to say they would make the matters clear in the prospectus next year and let the matter to rest this academic year.

Recent incidents of Muslim girls refusing to go to colleges without wearing burqa or hijab,  institutions consider uniform as a part of their discipline.  It may be recalled that student Aysha Ashmin of SVS College, Bantwal was not allowed to wear hijab to college in 2009 and later HadiyaIqbal, second year PU commerce student of Jain PU College in Moodbidri  too faced the same situation in her institution in 2011. The situation needs a proper mutual resolution.
