Udupi, Nov 12, 2014: The District and Sessions Court on Tuesday acquitted all four persons who had been charged with involvement in the murder of two persons at Sitanadi village coming under Hebri police station limits in 2008.

M. Shantharam Shetty, counsel for the accused, told presspersons that the four — Chandrashekhar, Nandakumar, Devendrappa and Asha — were charged with involvement in the murder of a teacher Bhoja Shetty and a farmer Suresh Shetty in Sitanadi village coming under Hebri police station limits on May 15, 2008.

Devendrappa, Nandakumar and Chandrashekhar were charged under the Unlawful Activities Act, the Indian Arms Act and Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 109 (abetment to crime), 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. Asha was charged under the Unlawful Activities Act and Section 201 of the Indian Penal Code.

But the District and Sessions Court acquitted the four for the lack of sufficient evidence.

Of the four, Asha was already out on bail. Devendra and Nandakumar still had cases pending against them, Mr. Shetty said.
