Mangaluru, Nov 19, 2014: Press reports state, Neil D’Souza, aged 63, the first of eight children of late Gauldin D’Souza and Anne nee Mascarenhas, died while proceeding in a bus near Uppinangady, due to heart attack, he was a heart patient. Survived by his wife and son. D’Souza was a former secretary of the St Aloysius College Alumni Association and life member of Catholic Association of South Kanara of which he was a few years ago Secretary and editor of it’s magazine "Mangalore".
It is stated that he was named after Aussie cricketer Neil (Harvey). Neil’s father’s passion for Aussie cricket was so deep rooted he named his six sons after Aussie cricketers Neil (Harvey), Donald (Bradman), Clarence (Grimmett), Keith (Miller), Alan (Davidson) and Kenneth (Mackay). His three daughters too share the family’s love for the game.
The Aussie association of this family began tears ago when Neil’s father wrote 50 verses in praise of Bradman and sent to him.. The family received a letter from Bradman which it treasures. Strangely, the letter reached the D’Souza’s in 1986, four years after the demise of the senior D’Souza. Such are the vagaries of fate.
