Udupi, Dec 8, 2014: Speaking after performing rituals, Barkuru Mahasamsthana seer Dr Vishwabharathi Swamiji said that the ‘Bhoomi Pooja’ for the installation ceremony of the ‘Daivaradhane’ is held with the approval of all the community leaders.
The entire ritual is held with the approval of the community people. It is done to uphold the tradition of matriarchal culture of the Tulunadu. He said it is not the responsibility of a single person nor it is focusing on human devotion. He said there was no ‘Guru Peetha’ among the Bunt community unlike other communities.
He said the basic roots of any community calls for strong structure else the entire community structure would collapse. He said the devotees are present in large numbers. They have come from across the world, he added.
Community senior leader Shantharam Shetty said there was an urgent need for the event which would bring back the imprints and memories of the matriarchal tradition that had its roots in Barkur. Barkur is the super culture which had its traditions in the monarchy that ruled the land. With high respect, all the members irrespective of age and status have taken part in the ceremony, which shows the desire of the community’s men and women to be guided through ‘Guru Peetha,’ he said.
The Bhoomi Pooja was held at Kundodara Daiva, wherein once upon a time Bhutala Pandya is said to have ruled the land. As many as 250 Daivas were installed on the occasion. The installation ceremony of Daiva Gudis was held.
It can be recalled that the Vishwa Yane Nadavar Janjagruthi Sangha had strongly opposed the setting up of Sri Barkuru Mahasamsthana to install ‘Daivaradhane’ tradition at Barkur.
Vishwa Yane Nadavar Janjagruthi Sangha President A N Shetty had alleged that the so called Barkuru Mahasamsthana seer Dr Vishwabharathi Swamiji is into promoting incompatible faiths. He alleged the ayurvedic practitioner in the guise of seer is paving way for obsolete practice, which is discarded by the Bunts community since many years. He said that the mutts and Matadhipathis suited better for the society that existed some hundred years ago. However, the concept itself seems to be irrelevant for the modern day world. He has a double stance over ideology and his idea of promoting the Bunt community, he had accused.
The whole idea of mutts for Bunt community was categorically ruled out during the world Bunts conglomeration held at Bangalore in 1995. He alleged that the self- proclaimed seer is into amassing money by exploiting the Bunts in the name of spirituality and rituals. There are nearly 85 Bunts organisations, however not even single organization has recommended or accepted the sainthood of Vishwabharathi, who has a family and whose background is not right, he said.
