Three die after truck rams into car

Udupi, Dec 08, 2014: Three members of a family died after a speeding truck rammed into their car at Padigar Kaikamba, near Udupi, on Sunday afternoon.

Around 1 p.m., Manohar Bhakta (40), a hotelier at Someshwar town, his wife Swati (33), mother Manorama (64) and children Manasa (8) and Sanjana (6) were headed from Udupi to Someshwar on the Udupi-Hebri road, when a truck crashed into them at the Padigar junction, said the Hiriyadka police.

The impact of the accident was such that the whole front side of the car was smashed in, said the police. While Manohar, Swati and Manorama died on the spot, their children were admitted to the hospital with severe injuries.

The police, however, described the condition of the children as being “out of danger”.

The police have booked a case against the driver of the truck, Santosh, who has been arrested.
