Rs. 56 lakh spent on Karavali Utsav

Mangaluru, December 31, 2014: As much as Rs. 56 lakh has been spent in the last seven days of the nine-day long Karavali Utsav held by the district administration.

During a meeting chaired by district in-charge Minister B. Ramanath Rai here on Tuesday, it was revealed that about Rs. 25 lakh had been spent on cultural programmes, Rs. 10 lakh on food and beach utsav, Rs. 9 lakh on the procession held on December 24 and Rs. 3 lakh each on exhibition and promotion.

The State government has given Rs. 50 lakh for the event. The remaining Rs. 24 lakh came through the donations given by the MSEZ, CREDAI, HPCL, BASF, Cardolite, Canara Bus Owners Association and Bus Operators Association.

Manjunath Nisarga, who represented the cultural committee of the Utsav, said the response to music programmes at Kadri park was poor as there was a similar programme in progress at the Ravindra Kalabhavan. Assistant Commissioner D.R. Ashok said there has been good response for cultural programmes and food stalls of Kerala Samajam and Gujarati Samaj at the Panambur beach.

Review meeting

Mr. Rai said a meeting of all the committees of the Utsav will be held after January 1. After finding lacunas in this year’s Utsav, officials should chart out plans to make next year’s Utsav more diverse.

Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim said representatives of seven educational institutions, a fair price shop, and a public health centre will be felicitated for their contribution to society at a function to be held at the Karavali Utsav grounds on Wednesday evening.
