Minister Irani to attend colleges’ golden jubilee

Mangaluru, Jan 5, 2015: Union Minister for Human Resource Development Smriti Zubin Irani will inaugurate the five-day golden jubilee celebrations of Vivekananda College and Vivekananda Pre-University College, Puttur, on Wednesday.

The colleges were established by the Vidyavardhaka Sangha in 1965-66 with science, commerce and arts subjects, a release said.

Since then the colleges have imparted education to a number of students especially from rural and semi-urban areas. Many students graduated from the college have occupied highest positions in different sections of the society now, it said. Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala would preside over the inaugural session.

Union Minister for Law and Justice D.V. Sadananda Gowda would be the guest.

Chief Post Master General, Karnataka, M.S. Ramanujan would release a souvenir ‘Suvarna Viveka’ and postal covers on the occasion.

There would be a music concert by Vidyabhushana after the inaugural session.

There would be an exhibition from 9 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. during the five days.

The annual day of Vivekananda Pre-University College would be organised on January 8.

State Legislative Council chairman D.H. Shankaramurthy would attend it.

State Principal Secretary (Higher Education) Rajneesh Goel and Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University K. Byrappa would attend the annual day at the Vivekananda College on January 9.

There would be workshops on ‘religion, education and youth’ and ‘challenges of higher education’ on January 10.Alumni association meeting and celebrations would be organised on January 11.

The valedictory would be conducted at 3.30 p.m.

There will be cultural programmes, including music and dance, during the celebrations.
