Mangaluru, Feb 13, 2015: In opposition to Centre’s ordinance to amend ’Right to Fair Compensation & Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation & Resettlement Act, 2013’ , members of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene will stage a protest, in front of DC’s office in Mangaluru on February 13 at 10.30 am.

Working President Ravikiran Punacha said the ordinance has snatched away right of a farmer over his land. It is against farmer’s fundamental right. Passing the ordinance was an attempt to fulfill Centre’s pro-industrial policy of government.

KRRS will urge the government to withdraw the amendment. KRRS, in association, with other farmers association will stage a huge protest in New Delhi on March 18 against the amendment. The crucial clause, which insists on securing consent from 80 per cent of farmers before acquisition of lands, has been done away. Corporates can now take away prime agriculture land with ease, he added.

On petroleum, chemicals and petrochemicals investment region proposed by Union Minister for Fertilisers, in Mangaluru, Punacha said KRRS will oppose the proposal. "We will not allow government to acquire the land for the purpose." On gas pipeline in Belthangady, he said the proposed pumphouse has been shifted and could save lives of around 80 families. "We could not stall the project fully," he added.
