Anganwadi buildings unavailable in DK dist..

Mangaluru, Mar 09, 2015: Anganwadis play a vital role in the health of children and women, a large number of centres in Dakshina Kannada district have no own building.   Studies of women and child welfare department 449 anganwadis out of 2,102 centres in the district indicate, they have not been provided sufficient own buildings. Though the government has sanctioned 108 buildings for anganwadis in the district, the work of 86 centres are yet to be completed. The work of 47 new anganwadi centres has been handed over to Nirmiti Kendra, zilla panchayat engineering department and to Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited.

Near 70 anganwadis are working in panchayat office buildings, 164 in community halls, 35 in yuvaka mandala premises, 6 in mahila mandala and 116 centres are located inside government schools. Meanwhile, the department is paying rent for premises of 52 anganwadi centres in the district.
