Mangaluru, May 24, 2015: Yakshagana artiste and scholar D.S. Sridhar has been chosen for the ’Tallur Kanaka – Annayya Shetty Award’ instituted by Yakshagana Kalaranga. The award will be presented to Artiste Sridhar at the Nutana Ravindra Mantapa on May 24.
A media note by the Yakshagana Kalaranga said that a day-long function would be held to mark the award presentation function. The works and achievements of this artiste, Sridhar would be discussed at a symposium to be held at 10 a.m. M. Prabhakar Joshi, scholar, would preside over the symposium. Scholars M.L. Samaga, Padekallu Vishnu Bhat and Radhakrishna Kalchar would present papers.
A ’Tala Maddale’ episode ‘Brighu Shapa’ composed by the honoured Sridhar would be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Balipa Prasad Bhat, Adur Lakshminarayana Rao, Lakshmeesha Bendrudi, Radhakrishna Kalchar, Jabbar Samo, S. Ganapati Bhat, V. Vishnu Sharma, well known artistes, would participate.
An interaction will be held with Artiste Sridhar at 5 p.m. Veteran Yakshagana artiste Hosthota Manjunath Bhagawatha would preside over the award presentation function at 5.30 p.m. Ambatanaya Mudrady and Heranje Krishna Bhat, writers, would be the chief guests.
This would be followed by a Yakshagana performance ‘Sudyumna’ composed by Sridhar from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Artistes such as Ganapati Bhat, N.G. Hegde, K.G. Krishna, Gurunandan Sagar, M. Ishwar Nayak, Pradeep V. Samga would participate.
