Kayyar Kinhanna Rai’s 101 years celebartion tomorrow

Mangaluru, June 7, 2015 :  Speaking to media, senior politician and Kayyar Kinhanna Rai’s son-in-law Kallige Tharanath Shetty stated that  Kavitha Kuteera Peradala and Kannada and Culture Department will jointly organise various programmes as part of 101st birthday celebrations of renowned poet, Gandhian Kayyar Kinhanna Rai at Kavitha Kuteera, Kallakaleya in Badiyadka on June 8 at 10 am.  He explained that former Lokayuktha Justice N Santhosh Hegde will inaugurate the stage function, while Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology, the district in-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai will preside.

Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader and Kannada and Culture Department Director K A Dayanand will be chief guests. Karnataka State Women’s Development Corporation MD K N Vijayprakash, former MLA Vatal Nagaraj, Buntara Matru Sangha President Ajith Kumar Rai Maladi, Alva’s Education Foundation Chairman Dr Mohan Alva, Kannada Sahitya Parishat former president Harikrishna Punaruru will be guests.

Books on Kayyar Kinhanna Rai’s poems, translated to English by A Narasimha Bhat and Mithali Rai, and Hindi translation by Prof Vishnu Bhat Sajankila will be released by Erya Laxminarayana Alva. Art exhibition by P S Punchithaya, a special exhibition on Kayyar Kinhanna Rai by Bhuvana Prasada Hegde and music concert by Puttur Narasimha Nayak and Lalith Arts will be held on the occasion.

A symposium will take place on various aspects of Kayyar Kinhanna Rai’s personality at 3 pm. Madhurai Kamaraj University Kannada department former HoD Dr Harikrishna Bharanya will preside over the function. Writer Dr Narendra Rai Derla, journalists Manohar Prasad, Malaru Jayarama Rai and former Kannada lecturer Dr U Maheshwari will part take in the session. Cultural programmes will follow the stage function.

Kayyar Kinhanna Rai, who received prestigious ’Pampa’ award on his 100th birthday is a multi-dimensional personality. Many know him as a poet, but he won National award as a teacher. Rai was the president of Badiyadka GP for 15 years and he was also a journalist and a Sanskrit Vidhwan .

Though he fought for unification of Kasargod with Karnataka, he has great respect in Kerala. Rai presided over the 66th Akhila Bharatha Kannada Sahithya Sammelana, and has worked in five languages, he said. Kayyar Kinhanna Rai’s sons Durgaprasad Rai, Prasanna Rai and others were present.
