Mangaluru, Aug 13, 2015 : Advocate members of the Mangaluru Bar Association August12, Wednesday boycotted the court proceedings in protest against Commissioner of Police’s order to revoke suspension of Inspector T.D. Nagaraj.
Inspector Nagaraj was accused of assaulting advocate Uttam Rai in the former’s chamber in Mangaluru East police station on August 1. The advocate has also been accused of assaulting Nagaraj and causing obstruction to officer’s discharge of duty. Following the allegation and protest by advocates, Police Commissioner S. Murugan ordered suspension of PI Nagaraj and disciplinary proceedings.
On Aug 12, an order was issued to revoke suspension of PI Nagaraj and post him to Bajpe police station.
Questioning the order of Police Commissioner, the Mangaluru Bar Association Prez S.P. Chengappa said, suspension had been revoked in haste and without proper inquiry. Chengappa said serious charges had been made against Nagaraj. How can an officer be re-posted to a police station without proper process. A writ petition has been filed questioning the Police chief’s order. Terming the decision of Commissioner Murugan unfortunate, Karnataka Bar Association Chairman P.P. Hegde said, the action would tantamount to support of State government to an official accused of assaulting an advocate.
