Officials asked to take govt schemes to the needy

Mangaluru, Aug 13, 2015:  Chairing the monthly KDP meet at the Zilla Panchayat Hall on Aug 12,  Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat president Asha Thimmappa Gowda directed the project implementation officers to spread better awareness on programmes implemented by both the Central and State governments, in order to eradicate disparity and discrimination in society.

ZP Prez said that Officials need to keep in touch with the people and explain to them the programmes meant for the welfare of the society to benefit them.  Adding that the officials must act as the conveyors between the elected representatives and the public. Officials should concentrate on meeting all the set aims. .

Vice-president Sathish Kumpala said that Grama Snehi meets have been successful in the district and instructed the officials to take steps to make the meetings accessible to a large number of people.

Referring to the condition of the Government Wenlock Hospital, the president expressed disappointment that many important concerns were agnored, the hospital lacked toilet facilities and the building was generally in shabby state. When she asked the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Irappa about the steps taken to rectify the problems, the RMO replied that a proposal has been submitted to the State government for a grant of Rs 15 crore for maintenance work at the hospital.

The president, meanwhile, directed the Government Lady Goschen hospital Superintendent Dr Shakunthala to use the completed parts of the new building of the hospital to accommodate the patients and puerperal women in the hospital as there is a lack of space in the old building.

The Zilla Panchayat executive engineer Nagendra said that work on the pipeline towards 50 of the 56 water tanks under the Bahugrama drinking water project at Kinnigoli has been completed. Water is also being supplied through them on an experimental basis, he added.

The work on the pipeline from Pakshikere to Haleyangadi to supply to six water tanks is in progress. Notices have been issued to the contractors to complete the work soon, he informed, adding that although the number of posts sanctioned for his office was 40, there were only three. Salary too has not been paid to the staff for five months.

Agriculture Department joint director Kempegowda said that due to shortage of rain this year, the area for paddy transplantation had decreased. There is also a dearth of workers,  farmers are being provided agricultural automated equipment.
