Mangaluru, Sep 19, 2015: A media release from P.V. Bhandary, psychiatrist and Medical Director of A.V. Baliga Memorial Hospital, has said that such forgetfulness and memory problems can occur in those suffering from dementia. he said that as per current statistics, about 3.7 million people suffer from dementia in the country, leading to various, social, physical and psychological problems, which affect a person’s normal functioning in their day–to-day activities. Hence, such patients become dependent on family members and caregivers. Most families become helpless due to lack of information about the disease and patient management.
To promote awareness and to minimise the burden on the family and caregivers, the Dr. A.V. Baliga Memorial Hospital will organizing a free care-givers programme on “Geriatric care and management” to mark the World Alzheimer’s Day based on the annual theme “Remember me” given by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on Sept 21,Monday.
