Six-day film festival in Udupi

Udupi, Sep 25, 2015  : A preparatory meeting  was held regarding the international film festival that will be organised in udupi from November 22 to 26.   The programme is organised in association with the Children’s India Society and will be chaired by Rajya Sabha member Oscar Fernandes. The committees managing the organisation of the festival will be set up under the leadership of  Udupi DC  Dr Vishal R.

Screening of the movies will be organised at various theatres in the district for four days from 9 am till 4.30 pm. The theatres are let for use during the festival free of cost by the owners.  The DC instructed the DDPI - deputy director of the Department of Public Instruction Diwakar Shetty to ensure that the festival was organised without hitch and ensure participation of at least 24,000 children drawn from all over the district. Discussion was held to set up a mobile theatre for screening of films for children from rural areas.

Speaking at the occasion, Children’s India Society Director Nanjundegowda said that about  200 children’s films from across the world would be screened. Workshops, animated movies and environmental documentaries will figure.  The officials should take the help of the State government to ensure the event was successful. There should also be a collaboration with other organisations in the coastal belt.  The year marks the 125th birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru, who is known for his fondness for children,  Rajya Sabha member  Oscar Fernandes reminded.

The Udupi DC assured that the district administration would lend support and allow use of KSRTC -  Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation buses to transport children for the festival.
