Classical music, dance event at Parkala oct 22

Udupi : The Sarigama Bharati Sangeet Vidyalaya is holding a day-long classical music and dance programme titled ‘Vidya Dashami Santotsava’ on its premises at Parkala from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Oct 22, Thursday.

A release to media said the programme would begin with singing of Pillari songs at 8 a.m. This will be followed by a classical music concert by Kriti S.A. and Samashrita. Ganesh Karnik, MLC, K.P. Rao, software expert, and A. Ishwarayya, art critic, will participate in the inaugural function at 9.30 a.m.

Suchitra Holla from Puttur will give a classical concert at 10 a.m. Shobha Kukke and Shaila Prakash will sing songs at 12 noon. This will be followed by singing of songs by Varijakshi Bhat and Prajna Adiga at 1.30 p.m.

In the post-lunch session, Vasanti Rama Bhat, Akarsha and Shashibhushan will give a violin concert at 3 p.m. This will be followed by ‘Pancharatna Goshti Gayana’ by guest artistes at 3.45 p.m. This will be followed by a guruvandana programme for senior music teacher Udupi Vasudeva Bhat and flautist U.N. Ramesh at 4.30 p.m. Mr. Ishwarayya will then deliver a lecture to mark the M.S. Subbulakshmi Birth Centenary programme.

In the evening, Venugopal Shanbhogue will give a Hindustani violin performance at 5.30 p.m. This will be followed by Hindustani vocal concert by Harish Hegde at 6 p.m. The programme will conclude with a Bharatnatyam performance by Lakshmi Gururaj and party of Nritya Niketana Kodavoor at 8 p.m.
