Awareness about breast cancer - Fun run in Jan 2016

Mangaluru : Reports state,  Elite Events Solutions and SRS Global Solutions in association with Lions Club District 317 D, Government Wenlock Hospital, Indian Medical Association Mangaluru and V4 News will for the first time in the port city host a women-only marathon next year to create awareness about breast cancer. Mangaluru Women’s Marathon 2016 will be held on January 10.
 

SRS Global Solutions director Rajesh R stated that the event is a 3km or 10km run/ walk for women, with an objective to encourage women’s health and fitness. It also aims to raise awareness about breast cancer, its causes and prevention. Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths among women worldwide though it’s a curable disease if detected early. The key to controlling this disease, therefore, is to create awareness about preventive measures. The event encourages all women to adopt running as an activity. The 3K Pink Ribbon walk will witness varied levels of participation, from 12-year-old girls to women in their seventies. It’s a fun category where women and groups come together to celebrate womanhood. 

A Baby Wearing Walk will be held to emphasise activities during pregnancy and post-natal period. Participats will carry their babies in slings and harnesses as they walk. A change in the mindset of new mothers urging them to lead a healthy life and break the stereotype of women with infants having to stay at home. Women with infants often don’t live for themselves, only focusing on their child. The walk is for urban women to understand that it is important to take their children along with them as they carry on with their lives. 

About 5,000 women are expected to take part.The runners and the visitors will be entertained by music groups, traditional dance groups at the start and finish lines and at various points.  All participants will be given an event T-Shirt, participation medal and certificate.
