Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, Oct 21, 2015:  Members of the district units of the KKSV - Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike, and the DSS - Dalit Sangharsha Samiti  staged a dharna in front of the Clock Tower  on  Oct 20, Tuesday condemning the murder of a right-wing activist at Moodabidri in Dakshina Kannada on October 9 and assault on two Dalit youth at Kandlur in Udupi district on October 14. The KKSV and DSS also condemned the attempts being made by the rightwing groups to politicise these issues and provoke communal sentiments.

Addressing the protestors here, G. Rajashekhar, president of district unit of KKSV, said that the most of the violent acts in the Coastal districts were due to right-wing reactionary groups. But the incident on October 9 involved the murder of a right-wing activist in Moodabidri. There was also an attack on two Dalit youth in Kandlur. Though the police had acted swiftly in both incidents, the right-wing outfits were trying to politicise the issue, he said.

Lewis Lobo, progressive leader, said that violent activity by any group belonging to any community was condemnable. It was the duty of the civil society to condemn any act of violence, he said.  Jayan Malpe, DSS leader, said that people and organizations in all communities should realise that nobody should take law into their own hands. If there was any attack or violence, there was the police and law to deal with it.
