Manipal, Oct 24, 2015 :According to a media release, on the occasion of International Stuttering Awareness Day, the Department of Speech and Hearing and MSW Programme, Department of Public Health, organised a quiz and college competition for the students of Manipal University.
K. Annamalai, Udupi Superintendent of Police, urged those with stuttering to be pro-active and take a step forward. He praised the efforts of speech language pathologists and social workers in this regard. The collage competition with the theme, “Don’t let stuttering stop you” saw an overwhelming response from the students. Stuttering is a condition characterised by repetitions, prolongations and blocks in a person’s speech and is seen in 1 per cent of the world population.
James Earl Jones (voice of Mufasa in “Lion King”) too had stuttering and famously said, “One of the hardest things in life is having words in your heart that you can’t utter.” Celebrities who have overcome stuttering include Hrithik Roshan, Marilyn Monroe, James Earl Jones and Emily Blunt.
