Mangaluru, Oct 27, 2015: Netravati Samrakshana Samiti, Ullal zone will take out a protest march from Tokkottu bus stand to Netravati river to protest Yettinahole on October 27 at 4 pm. Addressing media in Mangaluru, Samiti Ullal zone president K Ravindra Shetty Ulidottu said, that the jatha will be followed by an all religion prayer by Rev Dr John Baptist Saldanha, Sri Rajashekharananda Swami and Maulana Yahya Tanjal.
Terming the Yettinahole project unscientific, he stated that no study has been carried out by the government before taking up the project. "The government has to construct 30 dams to draw water from Yettinahole. The construction of dams from Naravi to Subrahmanya will have a disastrous impact on the Western Ghats, which will in turn adversely affect the climate of the region and result in erratic rainfall and so on.
Due to the poor rainfall, the quantity of saline water from the sea flowing into Netravati river has increased significantly, it has become a cause for concern for the people in Adamkudru, Ranipura, Amblamogaru, Pavoor and Harekala in Ullal legislative assembly. The agriculture has been affected and the problem of drinking water has also peaked. If water is drawn from Netravati river, the problem will only go out of control.
Samiti vice president U Abdul Kareem, members Felix Monteiro, Rajiv Kempumannu and General Secretary Ajit Kumar Ullal were present.
