Free distribution of digital hearing aid - Oct 28

Mangaluru, Oct 28, 2015: Addressing media on Oct 27, District Health Officer Dr Ramakrishna Rao said that as per the vision of  Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader, Lions Club Mangaluru, Lions Club Mangalagangothri, Lions Club Kankanady Padil, Lions Club Chotamangalore, Naseema Institute of Speech and Hearing (Bengaluru) and Manasa Cochlear and ENT Centre will organise a programme for the distribution of free digital hearing aid and presentation of the beneficiaries who have received free cochlear implant, at Lions Seva Mandir, Mallikatte here on Oct 28 at 9.30 am,

He explained that a screening camp for hearing was held at Natekal Primary Health Centre on December 7, 2014. During the camp, 30 children were identified with complete loss of hearing capabilities. In the first phase, nine kids have undergone free cochlear implant surgery and now they are in rehabilitation centre. A total number of 120 children are identified by the ASHA workers for the different degree of digital hearing aid. They will receive hearing aid during the programme and the children undergone cochlear implant surgery will be present on the occasion, he said.

District Programme Coordinator K Devdas Bhandary said that the event is being conducted as second phase of hearing screening camp held at Natekal. Lions District Governor Kavitha Shastri will be the chief guest, while First Vice Governor M Arun Shetty will be the guest of honour. The minister will felicitate YMK Group Director- Finance Farhad Yenepoya, Naseema Institute of Speech and Hearing Chairman U T Zulfikar, ENT Surgeon Dr Hans, DHO Dr Ramakrishna Rao and ENT Surgeon Dr Vasanthi.
