Nelyady town tense over hair cutting salon refusing to close

Mangaluru, Oct 29, 2015 : A disoute over closure of hair cutting salon turned into a communal issue at Nelyady, 70-kms from Mangaluru, on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru national highway on oct 27. Sensing the situation getting out of hand, DK SP  Sharanappa SD rushed to the area with additional forces and is camping there. It is said there was a sense of uneasy calm that descended on this town.

DK SP Sharanappa told media that members of community whose profession was hair cutting  had approached a saloon run by a person from a minority community and asked him to close it down for the community does not operate on Tuesdays. When the saloon owner refused, the group left the place giving him time to do so by the time they returned. When they came back and found the saloon open, the group and the owner entered in to an altercation.

SP Sharanappa said the members from both groups had a verbal and then also a physical altercation which led to the matter escalating in a free for all. As of now both groups have dispersed, he said adding no case has been registered in connection with this incident so far. "We will go by the complaints that we will receive and take action based on the complaints," he said, adding security has been tightened in Puttur sub-division following the incident.
