Kuvettu new ZP constituency in Dakshina Kannada

Mangaluru, Nov 10, 2015: Kuvettu in Belthangady taluk is now a new zilla panchayat constituency in Dakshina Kannada as the government has issued a notification on the delimitation of zilla panchayat constituencies.

Koyyur, Kaliya, Odilnala, Kuvettu, Machina, Maladi, Sonandur and Kukkala villages come under the Kuvettu constituency.

With this, Dakshina Kannada would have a total of 36 constituencies instead of the earlier 35. The five-year term of the panchayat would be over in February 2016. There was a need for the delimitation of constituencies as the government had formed two town panchayats, Vitla and Kotekar, in the district by carving out areas under gram panchayats.
