Karnataka Konkani Academy to release 100th publication Nov 18

Mangaluru : Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy will release its 100th publication ’Poinn’ (Journey), a short story book written by Fr Melvyn Pinto Neerude, on November 18.

The book containing selected short stories written by Jesuit priest Melvyn Pinto, who is currently pursuing his Ph.d in Journalism at Mangalore University will be released during Konkani Children’s Day programme in Puttur. Also, on the occasion, 101th book ’Gulmohar’, a book on collection of poems by Philomena San Francisco will also be released.

During the tenure of Ronald S A Castelino, President of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy,  35 Konkani books comprising poem, stories, children’s literature, writings, folklore, novels and translations have been released so far.



12th national conference of Society of Midwives. Nov 20 to 22

Mangaluru : In a press information note it is informed that the Yenepoya Nursing College will organise 12th national conference of SOMI - Society of Midwives, India, on the theme "Bringing quality to maternal and child health services: Indian midwifes take the challenge" at the indoor auditorium of Yenepoya University in Deralakatte, November 20 to 22.

Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader will inaugurate the conference. Yenepoya University Chancellor Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi will preside over the programme. The pre-conference session will be held on November 20 and Yenepoya Medical College Chief Operating Officer Dr Mohammed Amin Wani will be the chief guest. The pre-conference session includes a session on ’workshop on helping babies breathe,’ and ’upcoming issues and efforts to preserve fertility’. Members from many regions of India are expected to attend.
